徐冰，男，祖籍浙江温岭，生于重庆。1977年考入中央美术学院版画系，1981年毕业留校任教，1987年获中央美术学院硕士学位。1990年接受美国威斯康辛大学的邀请，作为荣誉艺术家移居美国。现为独立艺术家，生活工作于纽约。曾在美国华盛顿沙可乐国家美术馆、纽约新美术馆、布朗士美术馆、西班牙米罗基金会美术馆、捷克国家博物馆等重要艺术机构举办个人艺术展。曾被邀请参加英国、法国、加拿大、日本、澳大利亚、芬兰、意大利、德国、韩国等国的重要联展。1999年获得美国文化界最高奖：麦克·阿瑟奖（MAC ARTHUR AWARD）。
徐冰入选“影响中国”2017年度人物年度文化人物榜单。
2020年6月4日，徐冰以2019年度公开拍卖市场作品总成交额666万元人民币名列《2020胡润中国艺术榜》第64位。
2022年参与故宫博物院与腾讯联合举办的《照见天地心——中国书房的意与象》展览，展出最新的作品，纪录片《因为书房》记录了创作全程。
2025年获得伦敦｜London Art Fair 2025 伦敦艺术博览会2025第七届伦敦艺术双年展“国际当代艺术奖”。
作品收藏：中国美术馆、伦敦大英博物馆、美国纽约及艾维姆美术馆及北达克达美术馆、日本琦玉县立现代美术馆、澳大利亚国家画廊等各大收藏机构收藏。
作品出版：1996年《中国20世纪的艺术和艺术家》。1997年美国艺术史教科书《艺术的过去和现在》由Harry N Abrams 出版；《牛津艺术史“中国艺术”》牛津大学出版；《中国艺术及文化史》Prentice Hall 出版。
个人展览：曾在纽约新美术馆(New Museum of Contemporary Art ) 、布郎士美术馆 (The Bronx Museum of Art)、 美国艾维母美术馆(Elvehjem Museum of Art)、 北德克达美术馆(North Dakota Museum)、阿尔班尼大学美术馆(Albany University Museum) 、西班牙米罗基金会美术馆(Joan Miro Foundation at Mallorca)、捷克国家博物馆(National Gallery of Prague)、福岗亚洲美术馆等重要艺术机构举办个人艺术展。
Xu Bing, male, with ancestral roots in Wenling, Zhejiang, was born in Chongqing. In 1977, he was admitted to the Printmaking Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. He graduated in 1981 and stayed on as a teacher. In 1987, he obtained a master's degree from the Central Academy of Fine Arts. In 1990, he accepted an invitation from the University of Wisconsin to immigrate to the United States as an honorary artist. I am currently an independent artist living and working in New York. He has held personal art exhibitions at important art institutions such as the National Gallery of Coca Cola in Washington, D.C., the New Art Museum in New York, the Bronx Art Museum, the Miro Foundation Art Museum in Spain, and the Czech National Museum. Has been invited to participate in important joint exhibitions in countries such as the UK, France, Canada, Japan, Australia, Finland, Italy, Germany, and South Korea. In 1999, he won the highest award in the American cultural community: the MAC Arthur Award.
Xu Bing was selected for the "Influential China" 2017 Annual Cultural Figures List.
On June 4, 2020, Xu Bing ranked 64th on the 2020 Hurun China Art List with a total transaction volume of 6.66 million yuan in public auction market works in 2019.
In 2022, participated in the exhibition "Seeing the Heart of Heaven and Earth - The Meaning and Symbols of Chinese Study" jointly organized by the Palace Museum and Tencent, showcasing the latest works. The documentary "Because of the Study" recorded the entire creative process.
In 2025, won the International Contemporary Art Award at the 7th London Art Biennial, also known as the London Art Fair 2025.
Works Collection: Collected by major institutions such as the National Art Museum of China, the British Museum in London, the Avim Art Museum and North Dakota Art Museum in New York, the Saitama Prefectural Museum of Modern Art in Japan, and the National Gallery of Australia.
Publication: 1996 "Art and Artists in 20th Century China". The 1997 American art history textbook "The Past and Present of Art" was published by Harry N Abrams; Oxford Art History: Chinese Art "published by Oxford University; The History of Chinese Art and Culture is published by Prentice Hall.
Personal exhibitions: Personal art exhibitions have been held at important art institutions such as the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York, The Bronx Museum of Art, Elvehjem Museum of Art in the United States, North Dakota Museum, Albany University Museum, Joan Miro Foundation at Mallorca in Spain, National Gallery of Prague in the Czech Republic, and Fukuoka Asian Art Museum.
